On Monday 3 March 2023, the FWC handed down a Decision to increase the minimum wages of certain employees working in the aged care sector by 15%.

The 15% wage increase applies to certain employees covered by the below modern awards:

  • Aged Care Award

  • Nurses Award

This article will outline the new classifications that have been made available in Tanda to facilitate this increase.

The below new classifications will be effective from your first pay period commencing on or after 30 June 2023.

How to Update a Classification/ Level in Tanda

A Classification/ Level in Tanda is the tag that is used to denote the hourly rate of an employee.

There are three different ways to facilitate a change to a Classification/ Level in Tanda.

These are:

Contract Changes

This feature can be used to facilitate the change to a new aged care rate with an effective date set in the future.

To utilise this feature navigate to Workforce > Staff > select the applicable employee > click the Contract Changes tab:

Enter a Change Name for the contract change and a Start Date.

This will automatically set a corresponding Finish Date on the current employment configurations in the Payroll tab, for example:

Click + Add Conditions and then Confirm Change when you are happy with the Contract Change configuration:

This will then be shown a page to configure the new Classification/ Level.

From the Classification/ Level drop down select the new applicable aged care rate:

You can also select whether to notify the employee of the change via Tanda:

Once happy with the Contract Change configuration click Save Changes.

The new employment conditions will then display along with the existing one/s:

Then click Update Employee Details.

The Payroll tab will cost per the active Employment Conditions:

For more information on the Contract Changes feature see here.

Individually Assigning the Classification/ Level

Navigate to Workforce > Staff > select the applicable employee > click the Payroll tab > select the dropdown next to Classification/ Level > then select the applicable hourly rate tag from the list above > then click Update Employee Details in the bottom left hand corner.

For more information on managing the employee profile please see here.

Bulk Assigning Award Classifications

If you have several staff that you would like to assign a new Classification/ Level to at once, the Bulk Actions Tool can assist with this.

To use this tool navigate to Workforce > Staff > click the Tools dropdown > Bulk Actions:

From here filter staff, remove the existing Classification/ Level and add the new Classification/ Level.

For a full guide on using the Bulk Actions Tool see here.

Higher Duties

If any of your employees that will now be classified under one of the new aged care classifications work higher duties, new higher duty jumps may need to be configured.

For example, to configure a jump under the Nurses Award Managed Template from 'Aged Care Registered Nurse Level 2 - Pay Point 1' to 'Aged Care Registered Nurse Level 3 - Pay Point 1' navigate to Time & Attendance > Compliance > click Manage next to the Nurses Award Template > navigate over to Higher Duties > click Edit

On the next page click the + Add Higher Duties Jump button > choose a From Level and a To Level:

Then click Save.

Tanda will automatically add a tag to each employee's profile that matches the jumps you created

For further information on configuring higher duties under a Tanda Managed Award Template please see here.
