Clover POS Integration

How to connect your Clover POS to Tanda to import sales data for costed rostering, including setup steps, what data is imported, and troubleshooting.

Clover is a cloud-based Point of Sale (POS) system that can be connected to Tanda to import sales data and support costed rostering. This guide explains how the integration works, how to connect it, and what to check if data does not appear as expected.

Note: The Clover integration is currently in beta and appears as Clover (beta) in Tanda.

How Clover integrates with Tanda

Tanda automatically imports order data from Clover every 15 minutes. Each sync looks back over the previous two hours, so orders that are finalised late are still picked up on a following sync.

Imported data is organised by Clover merchant, with each merchant appearing as a separate data stream in Tanda, named after the merchant name in Clover.

Each data stream records data in 15 minute intervals and includes:

  • Sales: the total value of orders in the period

  • Transactions: the number of orders in the period

Important to note: Only orders that have been locked in Clover are imported. Orders that are still open are excluded until they are finalised, so they may appear in Tanda on a later sync rather than immediately.

There are two further differences worth being aware of compared to other POS integrations:

  • Sales figures include tax. Tanda imports the order total from Clover, which already includes sales tax. Unlike some other POS integrations, there is no setting to exclude tax from imported revenue.

  • Tips are not imported. The Clover integration currently brings across sales and transactions only.

The Clover integration is used for sales data only. It does not import employees, timesheets, or any other staff information into Tanda.

Connect Clover to Tanda

  1. In Tanda, navigate to Settings > Integrations > POS Integrations, then click New POS integration in the top right.

  2. Search for and select the Clover (beta) tile.

  3. Give the integration a Name. If you are connecting more than one venue, use a name that identifies the venue so you can tell your integrations apart later.

  4. Click Connect to Clover. You will be taken to Clover to sign in and authorise Tanda.

  5. Sign in to the Clover account for the merchant you want to connect and approve the access request. You will then be returned to Tanda, where the integration will show as connected.

Note: Each Clover integration in Tanda connects to a single Clover merchant. If you operate multiple venues with a separate Clover merchant for each, repeat these steps once per merchant to create one integration per venue.

Once connected, your data streams are created under Settings > Integrations > Manage Data Streams. Allow a few minutes for them to appear, after which sales data is imported every 15 minutes.

From here, link each data stream to a location and team so the sales show against the correct rosters and reports. See Configure your sales, revenue and demand data for more on configuring data streams.

Manage the integration

To manage an existing connection, navigate to Settings > Integrations > POS Integrations and select your Clover integration. From here you can:

  • Rename the integration.

  • Click Import data from last 30 days to backfill historical sales. This is useful straight after connecting, since the regular sync only collects data going forward. Imports can take some time to appear.

  • Click Disconnect Clover to end the connection. Sales already imported into Tanda are retained, but no new data will come through.

Using Clover sales data in Tanda

Sales data imported from Clover is available across Tanda and can be used to analyse performance and inform staffing and budget decisions. These areas include:

  • Live Insights: View a breakdown of predicted vs actual sales and rostered vs actual staff counts for each day directly in the Dashboard.

  • Recommended Staff: Use sales forecasts to recommend staff numbers in the roster based on expected demand.

  • Labour Budgets: Compare budgeted amounts against predicted revenue to better configure cost budgets and plan rosters.

  • Roster Statistics: Customise what data you see in the roster to view predicted sales and statistics like Wage % Revenue or SPLH.

  • Cost Reports: View actual and predicted revenue to monitor labour costs against revenue and identify variances against sales forecasts.

Troubleshooting

I get an error saying a token was not provided by Clover.

This means Clover did not return the authorisation details Tanda needs, usually because the approval screen was closed or cancelled before it finished. Click Connect to Clover again and complete the authorisation through to the end, making sure you are not blocking pop-ups for Clover or Tanda.

No data streams appeared after connecting.

Data streams are created on the first successful sync rather than the moment you connect, so allow a few minutes. If they still do not appear, confirm the integration shows as connected under Settings > Integrations > POS Integrations, and check that you signed in to the Clover account that holds the merchant you are trying to connect.

Sales data is not appearing in Tanda.

Check the following:

  • The orders have been locked in Clover. Open orders are not imported.

  • The data streams have been linked to a location and team under Settings > Integrations > Manage Data Streams. Until they are linked, sales will not show against your rosters and reports.

  • Allow up to 15 minutes for recent sales, as data is imported on a 15 minute cycle.

  • For sales from before you connected, use Import data from last 30 days on the integration page.

Sales are showing at the wrong time of day.

Clover does not tell Tanda which timezone a merchant operates in, so Tanda uses the timezone of the Tanda location linked to the data stream, falling back to your organisation's timezone if no location is linked. If sales are landing in the wrong part of the day, check that the linked location has the correct timezone set, then link the data stream to that location under Settings > Integrations > Manage Data Streams.

My revenue figures look higher than expected.

Sales imported from Clover are based on the order total, which includes sales tax. There is currently no option to exclude tax from Clover revenue, so figures in Tanda will be tax inclusive. Keep this in mind when comparing against tax exclusive reporting elsewhere.

Tips are not coming through.

Tips are not currently imported by the Clover integration. Only sales and transaction counts are brought into Tanda.
