What is the Work Value Case - Aged Care Industry?

The Fair Work Commission Work Value Case - Aged Care Industry and the Work Value Case - Nurses and Midwives looks at improving pay and job classifications for aged care workers to better reflect the nature of work performed in the sector.

On 11 September 2024, a Decision was handed down by the Fair Work Commission (FWC) on this case which confirmed variations for impacted awards.

For the Work Value Case -Aged Care Industry the first phase of wage increases came into effect from 1 January 2025.

For Work Value Case - Nurses and Midwives the first phase of increases came into effect from 1 March 2025.

The first phase of wage increases were automatically facilitated in the Tanda Managed Award Templates in line with the respective effective dates.

A Statement was issued on 11 August 2025 by the Fair Work Commission confirming the second phase of wage increases for impacted Awards.

When do the new rates come into effect?

For the second phase of wage increases for the Work Value Case - Aged Care Industry, the effective date will be the first full pay period that commences on or after 1 October 2025.

Tanda will automatically update all Managed Template base rates affected by the Work Value Case - Aged Care Industry. The increase will apply from the start of your first full pay period after the effective date.

What this means is that if you have a weekly pay period that commences on a Monday, the Work Value Case - Aged Care Industry rate increases will be effective for you on Monday 6 October 2025 as this is the beginning of your next full pay period after the increase.

Which Tanda Managed Award Templates are affected by the Work Value Case - Aged Care Industry rate increases?

MA000018: Aged Care Award

The Aged Care determination sets out the rate increases for the Aged Care Award as a result of the Work Value Case - Aged Care Industry.

From the first full full pay period starting on or after 1 October 2025, the below rates will incur a rate increase in the Aged Care Award Managed Template:

  • Direct Care Employee Level 1 - Introductory

  • Direct Care Employee Level 2 - Direct Carer

  • Direct Care Employee Level 3 - Qualified

  • Direct Care Employee Level 4 - Senior

  • Direct Care Employee Level 5 - Specialist

  • Direct Care Employee Level 6 - Team Leader

Tanda will automatically update the above base rates to reflect the prescribed increase. No further action is required to receive the rate increase outlined in the determination in Tanda.

This update will occur automatically and apply to timesheets from the first full pay period on or after 1 October 2025.

While this update will be automated in Tanda, depending on the payroll software you use, you may need to update the base hourly rates for the impacted classifications manually in your payroll software.

MA000034: Nurses Award

The Nurses Award determination sets out the rate increases for the Nurses Award as a result of the Work Value Case - Aged Care Industry.

From the first full full pay period starting on or after 1 October 2025, the below rates will incur a rate increase in the Nurses Award Managed Template:

  • Aged Care Enrolled Nurse Supervisor

  • Aged Care Registered Nurse Level 1

  • Aged Care Registered Nurse Level 1 (1+ Years)

  • Aged Care Registered Nurse Level 1 (4+ Years)

  • Aged Care Registered Nurse Level 2

  • Aged Care Registered Nurse Level 2 (3+ Years)

  • Aged Care Registered Nurse Level 3

  • Aged Care Registered Nurse Level 4

  • Aged Care Registered Nurse Level 5

MA000100: SCHADS Award

The Social, Community, Home Care and Disability Services (SCHADS) determination sets out the rate increases for the SCHADS Award as a result of the Work Value Case - Aged Care Industry.

From the first full full pay period starting on or after 1 October 2025, the below rates will incur a rate increase in the SCHADS - Home Care Managed Template:

  • Level 1 - Aged Care - Introductory

  • Level 2 - Aged Care - Home Carer

  • Level 3 - Aged Care - Qualified

  • Level 5 - Aged Care - Specialist

Tanda will automatically update the above base rates to reflect the prescribed increase. No further action is required to receive the rate increase outlined in the determination in Tanda.

This update will occur automatically and apply to timesheets from the first full pay period on or after 1 October 2025.

How do wage increases work in Tanda?

Tanda will automatically update the rates for the Managed Award Templates affected by the Work Value Case - Aged Care Industry rate increases.

No action is required to receive the minimum wage increase in your Managed Award Template. The update will occur automatically and apply to rosters and timesheets from the first full pay period after the new rates and allowances are effective.

Depending on the payroll software you use, you may need to update base hourly rates manually in your payroll software to also reflect the increase.

Updating rates for Tanda Payroll

For Tanda Payroll clients, wage increases will update automatically in payroll for any employees on one of the Managed Award Templates.

Updating rates for Xero and MYOB AccountRight Live

For Xero and MYOB AccountRight Live clients, base rates update automatically through Tanda's integration with these providers.

The rates will be updated upon export of the first finalised pay period after the new rates have come into effect.

This will be the first full pay period commencing on or after 1 October 2025.

NOTE: For the timesheet period where the rate increases have taken effect, the period will need to be exported the day after the pay period ends to reflect in Xero and MYOB correctly.

No further action is required, however, you should confirm that the updates have occurred as expected before finalising your first pay run after the change.

Updating rates for all other payroll systems

At the beginning of the first full pay period commencing on or after 1 October 2025, follow the steps below to match the rates in your payroll software to the rates in Tanda:

1. Generate a report of the new base hourly rates in Tanda. To do this navigate to Compliance > Award Template > click Manage next to the applicable modern award:

In the settings for each Manage Award Template, you will find a payroll configuration report button. For example, please see the below button for the integration with CloudPayroll:

Once the button is clicked, the below page will display where the list of current base rates and allowances can be printed:

2. Then update the base hourly rates in your payroll software to match the new base hourly rates contained in the Payroll Configuration Report.

NOTE: Depending on the payroll software integration enabled, the configuration report button might be named something different but it will always be located in the same place as the above image.​
