Managed Template Improvements
Automation of On-call Conditions
Automation of On-call Conditions
The Nurses Managed Template now contains new automation to capture when an employee is rostered or required to work during periods of On-call. Please see below for further details:
Recall to Work When On-call
Recall to Work When On-call
The Nurses Managed Template now contains automated recall conditions when an employee is recalled to work during a period of on-call per clause 19.6:
📜 19.6
Recall to work when on-call
(a)
An employee who is required to be on-call and who is recalled to work at the workplace will be paid for a minimum of 3 hours’ work at the appropriate overtime rate.
(b)
An employee who is required to be on-call and who is required to perform work by the employer via telephone or other electronic communication away from the workplace will be paid at the appropriate overtime rate for a minimum of one hour’s work. Multiple electronic requests made and concluded within the same hour shall be compensated within the same one hour’s overtime payment. Time worked beyond one hour will be rounded to the nearest 15 minutes.
NOTE: We do not currently automate the rounding to the nearest 15 minutes for telephone or electronic recalls beyond 1 hour.
Previously, if an employee was re-called to work during a period of on-call, overtime was applied through the application of the Recall shift tag.
Now, overtime for being recalled to work during a period of on-call will automatically apply in the timesheet when an On-call Schedule has been added to the roster.
To add an On-call Schedule, navigate to Rosters > Time & Attendance > view the roster via the Staff View drop-down in the roster viewing menu:
To add an On-call Schedule to the roster, select the day and click the On-call Schedule button:
The On-call Schedule will be added to the roster. You can then configure the start and end times for the on-call period:
If an employee then subsequently works during the On-call Schedule, overtime rules will automatically apply to the time worked:
If the time worked during the On-call Schedule is less than 3 hours as required under clause 19.6(a) then a minimum engagement will also automatically apply in the timesheet:
If an employee has been recalled to work via electronic means or telephone, there is a 1 hour minimum engagement that applies per clause 19.6(b).
To facilitate the 1 hour minimum engagement period, the Recall Telephone shift tag will need to be added to the timesheet:

On-call Allowances
On-call Allowances
The On-call Allowances in the Nurses Managed Template will now automatically apply in the timesheet when an employee has an On-call Schedule added to the roster per clause 17.2(a).
📜 17.2(a) On-call allowance
...
(i)
An on-call allowance is paid to an employee who is required by the employer to be on-call at their private residence, or at any other mutually agreed place. The employee is entitled to receive the following additional amounts:
(ii)
For the purpose of clause 17.2(a) the whole of the on-call period is calculated according to the day on which the major portion of the on-call period falls.
Previously the On-call Allowances in the Nurses Managed Template were applied in the timesheet manually.
The below On-call Allowances are now automated in the Nurses Managed Template:
Monday to Friday
Saturday
Sunday
Public Holiday
NOTE: The On-call allowance for a non-rostered day will still require manual application in Tanda.
Please see the below example of the On-call allowances applying automatically to On-call Schedules in the timesheet:
NOTE: Due to the automation now available for on-call periods in Tanda, the manual On-call Allowances that have been automated will be retired in the Nurses Managed Template
Time Off In Lieu (TOIL) Now Available
Time Off In Lieu (TOIL) Now Available
When an employee has an agreement with their employer that overtime worked that would otherwise have been paid can be accrued as time off instead, they are agreeing to Time Off In Lieu (TOIL).
The Nurses Award Managed Template now contains TOIL conditions that can be applied instead of automatic overtime conditions per clauses 19.3(a) and 19.3(b):
📜 19.3 Time off instead of payment for overtime
(a)
An employee and employer may agree to the employee taking time off instead of being paid for a particular amount of overtime that has been worked by the employee.
(b)
The period of time off that an employee is entitled to take is equivalent to the overtime payment that would have been made.
To categorise time worked as TOIL in Tanda, the shift must be tagged as TOIL so that the time off is accrued instead of overtime rates being paid.
The overtime hours that have had a TOIL tag applied to them will no longer cost in the timesheet.
Please see the below example of the application of the TOIL shift tag for a Full Time Shiftworker who has worked 10+ hours in a day:
Before the application of the TOIL shift tag:
After the application of the TOIL shift tag:
