This help guide will detail how to opt-in to our SuperAPI integration, along with the benefits of using SuperAPI. You can also refer to the video below to learn how to set up SuperAPI:
SuperAPI is available to all Tanda users at no additional cost, regardless of which payroll integration is connected.
SuperAPI is an ATO-integrated digital service provider that simplifies the super choice step during employee onboarding.
The SuperAPI integration allows you to:
Automate super stapling checks.
Allow employees to provide their existing super fund details easily.
Facilitate joining your default super fund or another fund.
Automate the member registration process when employees choose to join your default fund.
Automate the process of retrieving an employee's super details when they do not provide a choice of super fund (via stapling & defaulting).
Configuring SuperAPI
To get started, ensure you have set an ABN against your payroll integration or Tanda Payroll file. You can also set the ABN in the SuperAPI setup page.
Next, navigate to Settings > Superannuation and click on SuperAPI Setup. This will take you to the SuperAPI settings page to enter your details.
If you do not see this option, but instead see a 'Configure Super Choice' button, this is because you already have a default super choice configured against your profile. Don't worry, you can still use the SuperAPI integration. Just click on the Configure Super Choice button and toggle the setting off. Then, navigate back to the Superannuation settings page. You should now see the SuperAPI Setup option.
From here, click Configure SuperAPI and enter the following details to configure the SuperAPI integration:
Nominate your employer default super fund. (Required)
Confirm your payroll entity details and authorise SuperAPI to lodge TFN declarations. (Optional, but strongly recommended to enable super stapling)
Activate super stapling. To complete this setup, you will be required to establish a connection in the ATO's Access Manager. For more information, please see SuperAPI's Help Guide on how to do this. (Optional, but strongly recommended)
At this point, the SuperAPI integration will be ready to use. You will only need to complete this setup once.
Using SuperAPI
Note: Employees must have a Tax File Number (TFN) recorded in Tanda before SuperAPI can run a super choice or stapling request. Employees without a TFN will need to sign up to a super fund externally and have their details entered manually by an admin.
Completing Super Choice via SuperAPI
When a new employee is sent an onboarding invitation, they will be prompted to complete their super choice via SuperAPI. This opens a form where they can:
Provide details for an existing super fund that they are already a member of
Browse and join any regulated super fund
Join your nominated employer default fund
Provide their own Self-Managed Super Fund (SMSF) details
If an employee has an existing super fund from a previous employer, SuperAPI will perform a stapling check via the ATO to identify it. The employee will be shown the stapled fund and given the option to keep it or choose a different one.
Once the employee completes their choice, Tanda creates or updates their super fund membership automatically. Both the employee and payroll admin receive a notification.
Member Verification
After an employee completes their super choice, Tanda automatically runs a member verification check to confirm that the fund, USI, and member number are valid. This initial verification happens at the time of onboarding and is not an ongoing check. Ongoing verification checks are handled by Beam.
If a contribution bounces with an error like "No Account Exists," it typically means the member details in Tanda no longer match what the fund holds. This can happen if a fund updates its own validation requirements.
You can learn more about the reasons the verification can fail here.
Note: Any time an employee navigates to the super section in the mobile app, a "SuperAPI session" is logged in the audit trail. This is normal, it means SuperAPI ran a check, not necessarily that the employee changed their fund. If you see this entry, you can confirm whether details actually changed by checking if the fund name or member number was updated.

Yes. There is no additional cost to using the SuperAPI integration.
Do I need to activate super stapling?
Do I need to activate super stapling?
Activating super stapling is optional, but strongly recommended during the setup phase. If you do not activate super stapling, you will receive notifications when you're required to perform a super stapling request to retrieve an employee's super fund membership details. Your team will then need to perform a super stapling request manually via MyGov.

If you can't see the SuperAPI Setup button but instead see a 'Configure Super Choice' button, this is because you already have a default super choice configured against your account.
