Configure Public Holiday Dates

How to apply your public holiday region and add additional public holiday dates.

Updated yesterday

This help guide explains how to apply public holiday templates in your Tanda account, including how to add additional public holiday dates.

Tanda includes templates that contain the dates of State and Federal public holidays. Please note that public holidays determined by your local council/local government are not included in these templates. You can add these local holidays (e.g., your local show day) by following the steps outlined in the 'Enter Additional Public Holiday Dates' section below.

Select Your Account-Wide Public Holiday Region

You can select your account public holiday region under your general account settings.

To select your account-wide public holiday region, follow the below steps:

  1. Navigate to Settings > All Settings > General > Public holidays.

  2. Select your public holiday region from the list.

  3. Click 'Update Settings' at the bottom of the page to confirm your changes.

Note: As best practice, we recommend that businesses that operate across multiple states configure their account-wide public holiday region to 'Australia (national holidays only).' Then, you can set state-specific holidays per location, as explained below.

After setting your public holiday region, you can expand the 'Show Pre-Built Holidays' menu to see which specific holidays will apply. For example:

Set Location-Specific Public Holiday Region(s)

In addition to setting an account-wide public holiday region, you can also nominate location-specific public holiday regions for each of your Teams.

To do so, follow the steps below:

  1. Navigate to Workforce > Teams > Edit > Show Advanced Options...

  2. Scroll to the 'Public holiday setup' subheading.

  3. Enter a state in the 'Holiday Regions' field.

  4. Click 'Update location details' at the bottom of the page to confirm your changes.

Enter Additional Public Holiday Dates

If you observe additional public holidays that are not included in either our state or federal public holiday templates (e.g., a local show day), you can configure the public holiday to apply by following the below steps.

  1. Navigate to Workforce > Teams > Edit > Show Advanced Options...

  2. Scroll to the 'Public holiday setup' subheading.

  3. Enter a date in the 'Choose Holiday Dates' field (as highlighted in the below image).

  4. Use the + icon to enter another custom public holiday date if necessary.

  5. Click 'Update location details' at the bottom of the page to confirm your changes.

Note: If a location does not have a public holiday region set, we use the holiday region configured in your general account settings. However, if a public holiday region is specified in the location settings for a particular location, Tanda will refer to the location settings for all public holiday dates, including which additional dates are applicable.

How to Identify Public Holidays in Tanda

To identify when a public holiday applies in Tanda, check for the green icon on your rosters and timesheets. This is a good way to verify that your public holiday settings have been configured correctly.

FAQs

How do I make a public holiday apply to an employee?

If your Tanda organisation has more than one location and each location has individual public holiday settings, the location of the employee's Default Payroll Team determines which location's public holidays should apply to the employee.

Only the Default Payroll Team's public holiday dates will apply to this employee, regardless of whether the public holiday shift was worked in another location.

To set an employee's Default Payroll Team, navigate to their staff profile, then select Personal > Teams.
